30 Days of Prayer for the Harvest

Day 29 – Saturday, February 9, 2026

Read Luke 15:1-10

1 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” 3 So He spoke this parable to them, saying: 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ 7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ 10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:1-10).

In Luke 15, Jesus told three parables that all make the same point: God goes to great effort to seek lost sinners and He greatly rejoices when they come to repentance.

At least three things stand out in these parables:

  1. God actively seeks out lost souls.

The shepherd goes on a hunt for just one lost lamb. The woman searches all over the house for just one lost coin. Neither are satisfied to lose even just one. Both diligently pursue and hunt.

Jesus wants us to grasp this in a personal way: even if you are the only one lost, he will come after you. He will not rest until it happens. This places great significance on our lives.

The gospel message shouts to us of this active Savior: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8). When we were at our worst, in love God gave His best.

The worst sinners in Israel knew this about Jesus. They followed Him and trusted Him as a willing, active, loving Savior who was more than eager to save them from their sins and the wrath of God.

  1. He is overjoyed when just one soul is saved.

Both parables emphasize this truth, The shepherd and the woman both call everyone to rejoice with them. Jesus concludes, “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

  1. Repentance is vital.

Repentance means turning to God from our sins. Such repentance, like saving faith, is God’s gift (Acts 11:18; Eph. 2:8). You cannot have one without the other. When a person savingly believes in Christ, he turns from his sins and trusts in God’s mercy. When a sinner turns from his sins to God, all heaven rejoices because God gets the glory.

God is interested in what others think is worthless! He looks at people through the eyes of His love and grace and sees those who Christ died to save.

Do you believe God loves lost people like that? Do you believe He is actively seeking to save them? With Christ in you, do you believe He can use you to seek them so they will come to repentance and faith?

Today’s Prayer

(This prayer is just a model for you to pray, make the prayer your own from your heart as the Lord helps you to pray).

Father, in these parables we see Your loving heart that seeks after even one lost sinner and rejoices when one repents. I want to have a heart like Yours.

Lord, when I think about the people I know who are still lost, I remember today that they are of great value to You. You have sent Your only begotten Son to seek and to save them. You have called me to be Your disciple—one who is following Jesus and seeking others to follow Him. Let me show them Your mercy and love today.

Lord, by Your goodness and mercy, bring them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Open their blind eyes to the truth of the gospel. Give them ears to hear Your word. Keep seeking them until they are saved. And work through me in any way You choose to show Your love and tell Your truth.

Amen.
