30 Days of Prayer for the Harvest

Day 14 – Sunday, January 25, 2026

Read Matthew 26:57-68

Today, in our worship service, I will be preaching Matthew 26:57-68, “The Son of God on Trial.” I would like you to carefully read this passage today both in preparation for hearing the word of God preached and as a prompt for you to pray. Please take time today to consider these questions about that passage:

Where did they take Jesus after they seized Him in the garden?

What was their purpose in the hearing?

What do the false witnesses and lack of evidence show about Jesus?

How did Jesus respond to the charges? Why?

What was the only question that Jesus answered? Why did He answer this one?

How did they react to Jesus’ answer?

For what charge did they condemn Jesus to death?

Why would Jesus allow them to spit on Him and abuse Him?

We have been praying for people who don’t yet believe in Jesus. We are praying for opportunities to give them the gospel message that will save their souls. That message is all about Jesus who was completely innocent yet condemned as guilty. He was without sin, but became an offering for our sins. He loved men, and they hated Him. He is the author of life, and they put Him to death.

Today, take to heart the wonderful P.P. Bliss hymn, “Man of Sorrows”,

“Man of Sorrows!” what a name
For the Son of God who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim!
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood,
Sealed my pardon with His blood;
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Guilty, vile and helpless we,
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
Full atonement! can it be?
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die,
“It is finished,” was His cry;
Now in heav’n exalted high:
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew this song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Today’s Prayer

Father, as I contemplate the trial and suffering of Your Son Jesus Christ, make me truly grateful. May I be compelled by the love of my Lord Jesus to persuade men that He is the Savior.

Thank You Lord Jesus for making the good confession that cost You Your life. By the empowering of Your Holy Spirit, may I also be unashamed to confess You before men, no matter what the cost.

Father, I am no better than any of these people I have been praying for. And I am no better than those men who condemned the Lord and abused Him. It is only by Your great mercy, wonderful love, and marvelous grace that I stand justified. So let me have compassion for those who are still lost. I was once right where they are. May the message of the cross show them how much You love.

Amen.
